Hmlovina sa nach\u00e1dza v s\u00fahvezd\u00ed L\u00fdra a objavil ju Charles Messier v roku 1779. M 57 je od Zeme vzdialen\u00e1 pribli\u017ene 2000 a\u017e 2300 sveteln\u00fdch rokov. Na hmlovinu sa pozer\u00e1me akokeby zvrchu, tj smerom na jeden jej p\u00f3l, preto m\u00e1 pekn\u00fd kruhov\u00fd tvar s hviezdou v strede. Priemer hmloviny je pribli\u017ene 0,9 sveteln\u00e9ho roka a hmlovina sa rozp\u00edna r\u00fdchlos\u0165ou 20 a\u017e 30 km\/s.
